You Don’t Need to Memorize Code

I applied for the Techtonica boot camp this year and ended up withdrawing from the process. I didn’t feel confident in my JavaScript skills. I’ve been writing it for a while as part of my front-end development process. Why? Because I was having such a hard difficulty memorizing what I was doing in the code tutorials.

My brother teaches AP Computer Science. He told me the number one thing he tells his students is to refer to the docs. That is when I understood that memorization isn’t the key to programming. Like mathematics, you need to understand the concepts.

Then today, I had this video recommended to me on YouTube.

This is a timely message and one that I will take to heart. My goal this year is to get some JavaScript books because that is how I learn best. Then work on building some applications that I can show off in a portfolio. I plan on applying to Techtonica again in November.
